Russian satellite data reception station launched in India
16 April 2026
SONIKS, a Russian ground station for receiving satellite data, has been installed at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (Mumbai) and is now operational.
The system was developed by the Russian company Geoscan and is designed to receive signals from Russian low Earth orbit satellites. This is the first deployment of Russian technology at a technical university in India.
As part of the open SONIKS network, which connects ground stations in Russia and other countries, the station receives telemetry and Earth observation data.
It will be used in a joint laboratory established by Russian and Indian universities to analyse data from spacecraft.
