Visa types and documents required
Visa types
Tourist visa. Valid for 30 days with single or double entry. Issued based on a hotel booking or an invitation from an accredited tour operator.
Business visa. Valid from 30 days (single or double entry) up to 1 year (multiple entry). Requires an invitation from a Russian company.
Work visa. Valid for up to 1 year, or up to 3 years for highly qualified specialists. Can be extended. Requires a Russian work permit, an employment contract with an invitation from the employer, and a medical certificate confirming the absence of HIV and infectious diseases.
Student visa. Issued for the duration of studies. Requires an invitation from a Russian-accredited university and confirmation of enrolment.
Private or family visa. For close relatives of Russian citizens. Issued for a period of up to 1 year. Requires a document confirming the family relationship and an invitation from the relative.
Transit visa. For travel through Russian territory. Valid for a period of up to 10 days (or up to 30 days with double entry). Requires tickets and visas for destination countries.
Unified electronic visa. Valid for 60 to 120 days, with an authorised stay of 16 to 30 days. Allows entry through 92 border crossing points specified by the government. No confirmations, invitations, or additional documents are required. Can be obtained via a dedicated website within 4 days.

Passport-style colour photo (35 × 45 mm) glued to the application form.
Completed paper or electronic visa application form.
Travel medical insurance for the entire duration of the trip (extended coverage may be required for work or long-term visas).
