BRICS transport ministers adopt partnership declaration in India
Transport ministers from BRICS countries have adopted a joint declaration at a meeting in Maharashtra, held as part of India’s BRICS presidency.
The declaration sets out plans for cooperation on the circular economy for the transport sector, the creation of a BRICS railway research network, the use of sustainable aviation fuel and measures to reduce carbon emissions.
India’s Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said the declaration creates new opportunities for the adoption of technology across the transport sector. He added that India is ready to work with other BRICS countries on research into green hydrogen, electric mobility and alternative fuels.
The minister also said that India is modernising its railway network and introducing environmentally friendly technologies. Different modes of transport are being integrated into a unified system to improve logistics efficiency.
